A Techo-Bloc Craftsmanship
In this Oakville project, Golden Courtyard helped the homeowners transform a sinking asphalt driveway and dated concrete front entrance into a cleaner, more durable front yard shaped that better matched the architecture of the home.

The Challenges
1 /
Missing Design Language
The lawn alone was too flat and visually generic for the architecture. The space needed shape, texture, and planting structure that could support a more modern front-yard identity.
2 /
Unsafe Existing Steps
The old concrete steps had settled unevenly enough that the rise and landing conditions no longer felt comfortable or reliable for everyday use.
3 /
Freeze-Thaw Risk
Wet low points do not stay harmless. Repeated freezing and thawing can steadily worsen movement, cracking, and structural stress around the front entrance and foundation edge.
4 /
Water Pooling
The driveway and steps had both experienced settlement from long-term water exposure, creating low spots where rain and snow could collect too close to the house.
5 /
Cheap Look
The damaged asphalt and aging concrete steps made the property feel older and less refined than it actually was, limiting the curb appeal of an otherwise striking modern house

1 /
Integrated Refresh
We reworked the lawn grading as part of the overall drainage plan and refreshed the softscape so the front yard would feel complete rather than partially updated. To extend the curb appeal into the evening, we also added low-profile solar lighting that reinforces the geometry of the new hardscape at night.
2 /
Geometric Retaining Planters
To give the lawn more structure, we designed polygonal planter forms using textured wall units that fit the sharper lines of the home. Around the existing tree, we also created a defined tree surround that improved soil retention, supported permeability, and created more usable planting space.
3 /
Porch Overlay With Matching Stone
The existing concrete porch surface was upgraded with a natural stone overlay selected to match the exterior palette of the home. This helped the porch and steps read as one intentional architectural element rather than a mix of unrelated surfaces.
4 /
Natural Stone Step Reconstruction
Instead of rebuilding the entrance with standard paver risers, we used solid natural stone steps to create a more substantial, longer-lasting front entry. This improved both the appearance and the comfort of the step geometry while reducing the sense of patchwork common in lower-grade replacements.
5 /
Driveway Reconstruction
We removed the damaged asphalt and failing concrete elements, then rebuilt the grading with a more deliberate drainage plan so water could move away from the house more effectively. The new driveway used Techo-Bloc pavers in an ice-grey tone with a modern framed layout, combining linear organization with a more detailed inlay pattern to create a cleaner geometric look.
Our Solution

The Result
Stronger Daily Experience
From the driveway to the porch steps, the front approach now feels cleaner, safer, and more intentional, with a sense of arrival that matches the architecture from day into evening.
Low Future Rework
With corrected grading, stronger base preparation, and more durable entrance materials, the front yard now has a better chance of holding up without the same cycle of settlement and freeze-thaw damage.
Better Home Value Match
The geometric paving, natural stone entry, and stronger planting structure gave the property a front yard that feels much more appropriate for the quality of the house.
